Missouri’s stop and identify law, RSMo Section 84.710, gives police the authority to stop and question people they reasonably suspect of committing a crime. Police can ask for a person’s name and driver’s license, and may also request vehicle registration and proof of insurance. However, a person is not required to identify themselves if there is no reasonable suspicion that they have committed a crime.
